Please tell me they used a real Atmel and not one of their reverse engineered Chinese chips?

Since they went the SMT route I also hope they have the ISP pins broken out.

Did he say it was a genuine ATmega328? The fakes are real good but usually some slight marking differences but from that picture I think itís real.

Nice gift, and happy birthday.

I will get a magnifying glass and check it out later.

That header is also for future modules that they are working on. Wifi (i think octopi style) webserver, bluetooth and stuff like that

So far it is a really nice looking board...........that I cannot upload a firmware to!
I was able to get it to accept grbl1.1 through T2 but now it will show connected but not grbl ready
This is getting frustrating

When I try to upload, i get the "not in sync" error

It sounds like it's corrupt, probably didn't flash correctly.

Now is when you need the ICP header and a reset button. You'll probably have to wire it up manually.

There is no bootloader right? i wonder if i can do it through an UNO. The only thing broken out is the TX and RX and a few D&A pins (none for ICP)

There is a header with the following pins
D9, D10, D11, D12, A0, A1, A2, A3, A5, RCD, TXD, GND, 5V, 12V
Does not have D13 (SCK). In grbl 1.1 that is spindle direction. Could i connect through a pin on the control board (laser, servo or something?)

Why not ask the person/company who sent the board how they install the boot-loader.

Yes, if you don't have an AVR programmer then use an UNO and load the ArduinoISP sketch.

As you know, you'll need D13 (SCK). If it's not on the header hopefully it's on one of the connectors or even just a solder pad you can temporarily connect to. I often use small probes to connect to SMT devices, they are reliable enough for this process as you only need a connection for a minute or so.

yea, Z just replied to me. D13 is not broken out. I will have to hold a jumper pin to it

if i have an UNO as ISP, couldnt i just go from TX/RX on the UNO to RX/TX on the controller and burn the arduino bootloader?
