My stupid laser that i bought from ebay started to smoke from the nano and what ever you call the stepper chips

I have orded a new board but asked for my money back anyway and ill just buy it from another seller

And i am gonna look through here to find the best free software and setup guide i can

make sure nothing heats up too much. All the chips should be cool enough to touch and if they are hotter than that
then you have an use you need to resolve (check your wiring and make sure you dont have a short).
It is not normal that a new board give off the magic smoke....
Be careful and dont run this unless you are present... have a fire extinguisher handy..

It is 100% necessary for YOU to check and adjust the current limits on the stepper motor driver boards. The vendor has no control of how you plug them in. Too little and the motors don't move properly, too much and they overheat. After doing the recommended initial settings you then need to  run some tests at various speeds, directions, and locations.

I recently replaced a driver module. Recommended settings are about 0.4V for the X axis and 0.8V for Y. Ended up with 0.56V on X and 0.66V on Y.

a little ways down at the "Current Limiting" bit... depends on the motor driver you have...
