Projects / Re: Brass Plate.

Other than what is in the above post?

Just picked up the black painted brass sheet from a local trophy shop. Then used the setting above. Washed the soot off with hot soapy water.

Thanks guys. My day job, side job, and family and hobbies mean very little time to come to the forums. Being busy is a good thing right?

I have started making these reloading blocks on my CNC. A customer wanted a custom look. So I laser engraved it for him.

I etched a brass plate for a military gift I made. This was 2 passes at 1500mm 0.15 res and full power 2.5 MW laser. It left soot on top a little hot soapy water and this is what I had.

Good looking results. I have not tried bamboo again. Maybe I will give it a go soon.

thanks guys. I'm now using a stamp, after I cut the second one out. This saves ton of time. It did use the laser to engrave it.

I did try out the stamp. As you can see I forgot to flip the image. This was at three passes at 1500MM 0.1 res and full power on my 2.5MW laser. I could have gone 4 0r 5 passes as with 3 it was a little shallow. It do like the detail that I got out of it though. This is the speedball material found at Michaels craft store.

On a side note, I used to hate going to those places. Now my wife hates for me to go with her, because I find stuff to work on with either the laser or my cnc router.

I am now engraving my shop logo onto the backs of my products. A way to combine my CNC Router and my 2.5mW laser.

Has anyone tried doing engraved rubber stamps? Found this on Amazon.

I forget if it was 230 or 255 in power. Speed was 2000mm/min if I remember. Resolution was 0.125

Here is a board I did with varying results on different shades of bamboo.

The burn is different on differing types/colors of bamboo. The darker colors seem to burn better. As far as smoke; yes there is a good bit but not a lot. Usually one pass is sufficient.

I finally got a result I like. Still slightly darker in the bottom left(start point).

1200 MM/MIN
217 PWR
0.15 Res
Slightly out of focus

Well they say if at first you do not succeed try and try again. Or in my case about 40 more times. I have not been able to get what I believe is the perfect engraving on this cork. I have tried a range of feed rates, power settings, and resolutions. I have also adjusted it to be slightly out of focus as mentioned in another post(How much out is too much?. The cork with single images are from left to right:1000 F/r, 215 Power, 0.1 res, focused; 1900 F/r, 222 power, 0.3 res, out of focus, 1500 F/r, 220 power, 0.2 res, focused. The other cork of jumbled mess is everything else above and below those.
