T2 Engraving / Re: Compatible Lasers
« on: September 06, 2018, 10:54:03 AM »
Thanks for the replies.

! suspected that would be the case. Perhaps if I set up the laser parameters in T2 and save the Gcode it may work? I will just have to experiment. It would be great if does, I will still use T2 with my grbl diode laser of course.

I have found a third party control program by Scorch called K40 Whisperer which may be a suitable alternative to the Chinese software supplied with the machine. It's not arrived yet but when it does I will do some experiments and post the results.

Thanks again,

Steve.

Just had a reply from wild.bill - thank you I will investigate the Cohesion3D board.

T2 Engraving / Compatible Lasers

Hi Zax.

I use your T2 software with my 2.5 watt diode laser and find it excellent. I am now buying a 40 watt co2 laser and wondered if I would still be able to use T2 to control it? I apparently uses a M2 Nano control board and is very similar to the Chinese K40 machine.

Thanks for your help.

Steve.

Thanks for the replies (sorry for the delay).
I have downloaded the conversion utility and it seems to work ok. Only tried one PDF up to now.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi everyone.

This one is for Zax.
I get an exception error when I try to import a PDF file for conversion. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in anticipation.

Carloss.

What Can Be Cut? / Re: Materials that I can cut

Thanks for that. When my next(!!) board arrives I am going to try running the machine on 12V and go back to the 2.5W laser.

Oh dear, my cutting trials have come to an abrupt end.
Three controller boards have failed in 2 weeks. The latest one, fitted Friday failed after less than an hour. It seems to be the '12 volt power converter' that fails. The power supply that came with the machine is 24V.
All was well until I connected the 5.5W laser, which has also worked well for a number of weeks.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Zax, I get the Obeche wood from a UK supplier www.alwayshobbies.com. They do ship worldwide.

ggallant I am having the same problems, compressor motor too hot to touch after 30 mins and much vibration. I am going to look for an alternative compressor. Space is at a premium as I live on a narrowboat.

Hi.

Here is my prototype air assist. It uses an airbrush compressor to provide the air and the delivery pipe is attached to the laser.
it seems to give me a cleaner cut - this is 3mm obeche again with the same settings as before.

Thank you for the comments.
Ross, there is a proper aluminum table underneath the burnt board you can see. It is on stainless steel rods and forms the Y axis of the machine. The board is just an old piece of chipboard to protect the moving table. I will check out the honeycomb material - thanks.
Zax, the machine is a generic Chinese called 1830 (the table size in cm).
The fan you can see is an old computer power supply fan. It helps to clear the smoke which reduces marks on the wood surface and laser lens, but I do have to regularly clean the lens.
Trouble is the fan is static but the laser moves (the X axis)!
I am trying to design some way of channeling the air from the fan through a flexible tube mounted on the laser.
Suggestions welcome!

Thanks guys.

Hi everyone from the UK.
I have been experimenting cutting different materials with a 5.5W laser and T2 software. I can get a nice clean cut using 3mm Obeche wood at a feed of 150 mm/min, full laser power and 3 passes.
This wood is similar to Basswood but stronger and easier to cut (3mm Basswood takes 4 passes).
I have attached pictures of my results.
