I have started making these reloading blocks on my CNC. A customer wanted a custom look. So I laser engraved it for him.

Projects / Brass Plate.
« on: March 20, 2017, 08:07:38 AM »
I etched a brass plate for a military gift I made. This was 2 passes at 1500mm 0.15 res and full power 2.5 MW laser. It left soot on top a little hot soapy water and this is what I had.

I am now engraving my shop logo onto the backs of my products. A way to combine my CNC Router and my 2.5mW laser.

Projects / Cork Coasters

Well they say if at first you do not succeed try and try again. Or in my case about 40 more times. I have not been able to get what I believe is the perfect engraving on this cork. I have tried a range of feed rates, power settings, and resolutions. I have also adjusted it to be slightly out of focus as mentioned in another post(How much out is too much?. The cork with single images are from left to right:1000 F/r, 215 Power, 0.1 res, focused; 1900 F/r, 222 power, 0.3 res, out of focus, 1500 F/r, 220 power, 0.2 res, focused. The other cork of jumbled mess is everything else above and below those.

T2 Engraving / .dxf files from inkscape
« on: May 05, 2016, 03:07:47 PM »
I have not been successful at saving .dxf files in inkscape and then loading into T2. There are a few options in inkscape when saving. Which options do I select when saving to open in T2? I get incomplete images or just white space currently.

Trouble Shooting / Work piece zero and feed rates.
« on: April 05, 2016, 09:33:32 AM »
I made a grid for mt waste board. My intent was to make 1/4 inch solid squares with 1/4 inch spacing between. I was trying to get these burned into the total work area of roughly 6 inches x 8 inches these machines are supposed to have. I was going to use these as reference points to setup other work pieces. As you can see it didn't work so well. The machine tried to go two rows too far to the right and it tried to go two rows too high on the top. So it lost steps and some of the squares are off. In Inkscape my work space was set to 8 1/4 x 12 3/4 which is the space of the bed of the machine. My border and squares were 6 x 8 inches. To add to the issue I still can't get the weak laser to work, so when I added the waste board it was out of focus again and I had to power on at full power, check focus, hit the power button, adjust focus and the power on again, etc. It's close but not perfectly focused.
