General Discussion / TTL.
« on: August 04, 2019, 02:50:34 PM »
So I have tested with the T2 greayscale test. I get one very deep solid black image. there is no variation. So I assume that this laser is not TTL compliant. What attachment can I get till I can get a new Endurance laser?

General Discussion / custom build
« on: July 23, 2019, 11:00:15 AM »

So I have convinced the woodshop teacher at the school I work at that A CNC and Laser Engraver is needed addition to the shop. After showing him both some of my projects as well as projects that others have done he is 100% on board. My next step is to help them figure out what they would need and power and such. I think it would be best for a team more experienced then I to help weigh in on this.

Does anyone have thoughts, or do custom builds?
This is for a school, so the budget is good, but not amazing.
Also Zax would your software work for both his CNC needs as well? I told him your software would be what i suggest for the laser portion at the least as it is user friendly and you are always so prompt with assistance when needed.

Trouble Shooting / greyscale not working
« on: July 16, 2019, 02:13:47 PM »
Hello all,
Been happily engraving now for a bit thanks to the original help I got in here. I am now facing a new issue. Not sure when this happened or why, but I cannot do greyscale anymore. I just does a solid black box. I assume this is an issue with the laser communication not changing the power or something. Any suggestion on things i should look at on the laser first. It engraves great in black and white, but that's the simple on off of the laser so no surprise there. Let me know what I might be able to do to fix this issue if you know. Or if i need to buy something to go between the board and the laser to have that communication.

General Discussion / new stepper motors just grind?
« on: July 01, 2019, 11:02:34 AM »
Hello all. I just purchased some new stepper motors on amazon. they are STEPPERONLINE 3PCS Nema 17 Stepper Motor Bipolar 39mm Body 45Ncm ( 1.5A 12V 4-Lead W/ 1m Cable and Connector for DIY CNC/ 3D Printer/Extruder

when i installed them they wont run but make a simple grinding noise in place. from my understanding that is me meeting the torque max, but I dont understand how that is already? I have tried different speeds to see, ive tried adjusting the stepper motor currents on the control board.

Are these just the wrong motors? i had them saved from a past conversation from in the forum about stepper motors.

Engraving / 10w laser not performing as well
« on: April 13, 2019, 01:03:38 PM »
Hello, so start off I know 2.5 - 3w is so much better and i have one that I love. But i have a 10w that i figured out how to wire, now I have a question about power to it. So it did not come with a power supply and it struggles to engrave on some harder woods. I am powering it with a dedicated 12v 2a power supply and i saw someone in a video say that they were using 12v 4a so i was wondering if i need to Amp up the power so to speak.

General Discussion / Do these look like the right stepper motors?
« on: April 07, 2019, 08:46:29 PM »
Does the specs on these look right. I know that Nema 17 should be correct and the connectors are right but i want to make sure that the rest seems correct.

General Discussion / Spacers
« on: March 25, 2019, 09:19:55 AM »
Anyone know a good place to purchase spacers? My laser carriage has a wobble to it that drives me insane. When i go to focus the laser it whole thing will rock back and fourth a little. I think it is the spacers but im not sure. My kit came with an odd number of spacers so i had to resize a few to have 4 the same ( to the best of my ability) size. I have the belt and motor above the X axis bar. I have seen photos of it under but my model online shows it at the top. what suggestions do you think might work to help control this wobble. does it really need to be controlled? ive not been able to produce any work good enough yet to see if there is any wobble in the images.

Trouble Shooting / 6W 405nm Chinese laser rectangle beam better focus
« on: March 22, 2019, 10:57:21 AM »
Does anyone have a good reference of what the focus point should look like on a rectangle beam? Want to make sure that I am getting a good focus. Also, my laser is about 3in from the engraving bed, I was reading that with these lasers more distance is needed to get a good focus. Has anyone tested this? I am starting to get results. Slowly but all the suggestions are a HUGE HELP. Thank you.

Oh and someone in another post said getting a better lens is a good idea? is that a good idea for these lasers? where would I order that?

General Discussion / This site will cause my divorce
« on: March 20, 2019, 01:13:42 PM »
My wife says that if I buy to much more laser stuff she is going to have to move out. She said she will site this forum in the divorce papers as the cause. LOL

I cannot tell you how many things I have learned from going through these discussions. Slate, and Glass.... oh I want to do them so much.

Think she would count a 3D laser as more laser stuff????? what about CNC?

What I'm saying is thank you for the Add and for encouraging my addictions.

General Discussion / Belt holder
« on: March 19, 2019, 09:55:16 AM »
Ive seen in a few videos only what i can assume are 3D printed belt holders rather then the basic system mine came with ( a nut in the track and a screw to hold the belt down on each end). I assume these 3D printed ones allow for better cleaner movement and tension. Does anyone know where to get them?

Trouble Shooting / New controller no laser
« on: March 18, 2019, 06:24:18 PM »

So my last update killed the board that my system came with. Being under a time crunch i got an inexpensive board off my laser doesnt want to turn on. Its plugged into the 12v laser on the board. The steppers work much better with this board. Attached is a photo of the new board.

Trouble Shooting / NOOB HELP#2 stepper motor issue FIXED
« on: March 16, 2019, 11:26:20 AM »
Hello again,

So my next plea for help is with my X stepper motor. It for some reason isnt smooth. at 500mm it jerks a lot and tappers left. the image just jerks to the left and is unusable. Is this a track issue or just cheap stepper motor?

I was trying to upload a video of this issue, but it wont attach for some reason.

UPDATE: it was a bad stepper control, replaced and it is smooth again.

General Discussion / NOOB HELP to upgrade laser
« on: March 15, 2019, 04:39:38 PM »

So i think i made a mistake but I'm not sure. the seller says the 6w laser i purchased will work fine with the chinese engraver I got. but the board I have doesn't have a spot to plug in the 12v DC input. Just the 2wire TTL ( I think that's what its called). here is a photo of the board i have on my unit. Do i just cut off the 12v end and wire it into the positive and negative of the other wires?
