the question is do i need some special file or just normal grbl hex
the CNCC software is crap, pure and simple, want to try the T2 but prefer to not kill the only controller I have at the moment

Assembly Help / some assambly issues with LaserAxe, need some advice
« on: January 25, 2017, 05:21:21 PM »
well,
2 weeks after i got it, sat to assemble it and ran into few issues

1 - they gave me un threaded frame so i have to use "force" to attach legs to it and might have warped or changed the frame a bit as the middle frame doesn't move as smooth as it should
2 - any advice on belt tension options? it's sh** on the Axe
3 - missing a bolt for the laser unit (need to get one later)

any wisdom on assembly?

General Discussion / LaserAxe 7W had arrived, question time
« on: January 05, 2017, 01:27:07 PM »
so,
the LaserAxe i ordered arrived, and while i didn't assemble it yet (this weekend)
need to ask few questions

1) the laser has a PWM and TTL, but the PWM is the one connected, what is the difference significance?
2) i plan to add a small vent as a blower to remove smoke, saw that the board had unused fan pins, should i use them or find another power source?
3) the laser has a fixed focus (got a small metal raising table with it) the "manual" assembley that lowers the laser up and down isn't the most solid peace of machinery i had ever seen, any ideas for replacement?
4) in theory, can i use a different controller with this laser? the big issue is it using dual motor setup and not triple
5) how do i check what grbl does it use (to know if i can use with T2 for example) and if its stock grbl or did they change it somehow

well,
while i wait for my 7W AXE to be shipped saw a video today from them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ5y7Thf8ls

learned few things... 1) the laser seems to have TTL 2) they used a lifting table, that indicates me the focus is fixed and not enough for the build in focus option

meaning i'm might be stuck with a 30*40 laser that needs a lift table for proper work.

any suggestions on a solution for a lifting table that will do for such size of work space?

Engraving / Re: Photo engraving on anodized aluminium

So the 5.5w in enough for anodized?

well, i'll order the AXE 7W with 30x40cm work area for 444$ (not cheap...)
there is also an option for 35x50CM for 484$ and 65x50 for 482$ (cheaper then the 35*50 strange)

is there any need in your mind to go over the 30*40 and add another ~40$ for work area?

also, while the main mod i plan to make is enclosure for the whole thing with a vent out to remove the fumes and a small vent as "air assist" (sort of) any other ideas for mods?

my main ideas come from this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-fjFenOy_0
got the 3d print files from him

You could put a 3500mW TTL module on it
with "anodized aluminium" being one of my main reasons, i need to limit myself to high power
i saw you refer to the 15w (same model as 10W) as short lived due to high power
while i would love to find a AXE frame with 10W don't think i can
don't have the understanding about the difference in the lasers (as far a i can see bigger copper body inside of the cooling case

the 7W AXE might be it, marked as able to mark metal (i need that), bigger work space (can't hurt) should work with grbl (so i might use your T2 :) )
and i can always cannibalize it more then the 10W model

is there any place i can see wood engraving examples of non  TTL laser
thats the last thing i need to consider (should i go with the higher smaller AS_5 10W)
it's not my main goal but being able to grayscale on wood would be nice

You can always upgrade the laser
will, did a little bit of digging
found this complete frame without a laser, 2 issues: 1) can't find a bigger version 2)what is the limit of the laser i can use with something like this

its a EleksLaser-A5 Pro
