General Discussion / Re: All in one place for upgrades?
« on: August 14, 2018, 07:08:23 PM »
To be more specific, here are some things that I would like to do to my laser. Are they possible? if so, how? Where would I go to purchase the parts etc.

1. Get some better safety glasses. Recommendations? (the ones that come with the laser won't fit over my regular glasses)
2. Add drag chains. (my laser sits on a table that is almost the same exact size so sometimes the cables going to the stepper motors get hung on the corners)
3. Home switches.
4. Upgrade the stepper motor drivers.
5. Add a resistor to stop the laser from turning on by itself.

I do not think any of this is beyond my abilities. I have built guitar pedals in the past and I am have worked in the IT field for 12 years. Not bragging just saying I am not a dummy. But I am also a visual learner so I would like to find written and visual instructions please.

Thanks,
John

1. Survival laser USA. Go to their site and get the OD6 orange glasses that go over glasses for $50. I bought them and love them
2. I am just using a cable keeper. Round hard plastic. It works well
3. Check out Thingiverse. Search for user Nottingham82 and he has an awesome collection
4. Hardware store
5. Find one pin compatible
6. Try a 4.7k resistor between the S and GND pin on the laser

I am using 80 for raster, 300 for Vector, 2000 for rapid

I probably have the fast skip blank on. Donít want it to take 500 minutes

I hear you there. A lot less cleanup as well. I now understand when you say an eraser and some water. At 100, I had residue to clean up

So. No luck at my local Walmart. They have some of the mugs like what I have in the picture above but none in black.

Found one at a hardware store and giving that a try. Will probably just do RTIC online and buy them by the case

Now, when i was getting the wrong estimated time, i was working on rotary. I dont know if that changes things.

This is the laser i bought recently, so the first thing i did was flash the firmware, so i assume that it has your basic settings in there. I even set defaulted out T2 when i was troubleshooting my other laser

Where are those mugs located in a Walmart?
For 0.07 res, what DPI do you export at?
Does the electro etch really help?
Do you just use mr clean eraser and water?

I plan on testing again now that my file is fixed.

Just to be clear, you are referring to "raster" engravings right? Not "vector"?

I am noticing that as well. Just did an engrave that said it would take 2 hours and 15 minutes and it took 56 minutes.

Personally, that is a pleasant surprise for me!

Looks pixelated. Did you use a low res image? The etch looks good. Dark color mugs look best. I did a light green mug and it didn't provide enough contrast. I like black mugs best

I am going to try it again with a new export. I think i exported it at 0.2 res then put it into T2 at 0.1
I plan on black mugs, but green was all I had for testing.
