Inspiration / Re: First real test

Ok, I was so curious that I found a can of compressed air and was blowing it constantly while cutting.
Here is the comparison:

So air assist is indeed helping with burnt edges but it does not affect the cutting abilities at all.... same number of passes - same results but less burnt.

Hey Oscyp.  What is your wood sitting on? if it is sitting on a flat surface, try raising it so only air is under the cut.  It helps the finish the cut by letting smoke escape.

thanks for the reply nottingham82. Is this sealer an oil or a type of varnish? I ask as this will still be used as a chopping board. I have some chopping board oil and wonder if this would work. Do I need to clean the soot off to help get rid of the smell?
I'm not sure. I'll go look at the bottle. I think it's like an oil. It is designed to go onto butcher blocks and used with food. So it is food safe.

sealing it would probably help.  less smell could escape then.  I have a butcher block sealer I bought.

Looks very nice. But out of curiosity did it actually etch the slate or is it only removing the sealer ?
He etched the slate. That is what slate looks like when you hit it with a diode. He burned though the coating and etched the stone. I usually go at like 1500mm/min. He had to go slower to burn off the sealer.

Trouble Shooting / Re: Laser is Uncontrollable

Laser module, is there a known repair for these new 3 wire lasers? This one apparently was faulty on delivery. I can order a new one, are there better options than the ones provided with the original machine? The voltages have been measured utilizing a multi meter.
Danowar replaced his TTL module and did a write up on it. Also did you make sure the wires are going to the right place? Sometimes the plugs are miswired so it makes you 12 + line go to the signal input turning your laser on all the time

and the pwm signal wire should be 5 volts or less and comes directly from the usb cable.   And yes should be meausred to ground.

well you are missing some grbl then.  That is something custom and not a full version of 1.1e  This is what mine reads

click the check box at the bottom right of the laser control screen.  then type in $$ and look at $30  this will tell you the max value so you can stop guessing at what the highest number you can enter is.  If you find that the number is still dim you may have a failing laser or power supply.

eh thought red canceled out blue but I could be misremembering.

are  you using 115200 as a baud rate?

Looks really amazing.

Wow hadn't tried that. It's funny how small variations in the processes can affect results. I am definitely going to try sealing before

never tried but if you used a not clear or not red one.  like black or green it should work just fine.

glad to see its burning!

looks like it rounds the diameter to .1mm so if you put in 62.12 it will round to 62.1 and calculate from there.  It probably wont matter much.  it takes a shift of about .1mm to change the steps per mm the motors make.  the resolution is only 1.8 degrees.

lol I only tell you about my successes.  I hide my failures or shame in a box under my desk.  Dark slate works best.  Light slate doesnt do much.
