These are where I would start...

Do you have the weak laser button pressed (don't do that).

Did you move the jumper under the Nano to the 0.9 position?

Did you flash the firmware to 0.9g or 1.1c/d?

thanks Zax  I have flashed the firm ware from the t2 laser 0.9, if I reflash the firmware with the original and  use gbrl controller software and use m03 the laser comes on. the m03 code is in the gcode when I create in t2, but the lase does not come on. I am not sure how to move the jumper to 9

when I plug it in it has a low violate light, it moves with the software g code but does not power up and engrave. it is not the laser unit. just does not increase power to the laser

What is the "original" firmware, the Benbox?

If so, you can use T2Laser with that and see if it works - it should. That tells me that your board is configured for Grbl 0.8 and not >=0.9 which is what most of us use. I now use the latest 1.1 master as it has many nice features and better motion control.

the original is grbl 0.8, it says grlb firmware hex file. when I flash the 0.9 or the 1.1 it will not work with the grbl controller software, benbox has never worked. when I use t2 it makes all the steps but is not at burning power no matter what I do. also you never told me how to moving  the jumper. if I load a .nc file in t2 it loads but will do nothing just send to machine and sits there

If it's not the Benbox firmware, and is Grbl 0.8 then it probably isn't laser firmware and won't work well for engraving.

In my signature you will find the conversion document that has pictures and instructions, but the jumper is usually under the Nano.

Once you move it to 0.9 you can use any of the current firmware, I would suggest either 1.1c or d as they support more features.

man I hate to be a pain but I  do not follow you on the pin 9. I have six dip switches on the board that is it. Not sure what you mean by Nano. I am a newbie

Well the fact you have dip switches tells me it isn't the standard Eleks Maker board, so you may not have a jumper to set 0.8/0.9.

If you look at the conversion document you'd see what the Nano is and where the jumper is usually located.

>Not sure what you mean by Nano

The Nano is the microprocessor board that is on the controller board.

The jumper is under the (Ardunio) Nano so if you plan on moving the jumper, you have to carefully remove the Nano first.

Here is a link I made showing how to do the PWM mode: http://benboxlaser.us/index.php/topic,935.0.html
