... I think it just died :(
« on: December 16, 2016, 05:45:27 PM »
Well as some of you have seen, I have thought that my laser has been getting weaker,
Well, today I did a small engraving, and when I went to do a second, I used T2 to turn the laser on at a low power so I could focus it like I always do.
It came on low power, and as I turned the lens it flashed full power for a split second and went out.
Now I cant get it to come on at all, power cycled the engraver and restarted T2, still nothing.
I can job it around, but cant get it to come on.

Anything else I can try?
And, sigh, anyone know a reasonably priced laser module I can buy?  :(

Plug it in the fan/12V port just to make sure it's not the MOSFET.

If you do need a new laser I would get one of the TTL modules, they're fairly easy to install (the wires will probably need to be extended) but otherwise plug and play. I have the 2000mW and it's as powerful as my original 2500mW.

If the laser works plugged in directly then you'll need a replacement board.

If you do get the 2000mW, make sure you grab one of their 12% off coupon codes. It cycles every hour.

Just applied direct 12V power to the laser and it came on, couldnt really tell what its output was but seemed strong.

So, could a MOSFET have died slowly? Its just odd that I seemed to loose power over time like that.
Guess I will order a board, gonna hate being down!  haha
Oh well, would be great if this fixed my other power issues.

MOSFET's do usually fail shorted but if the laser comes on when connected directly it sounds like the problem is with the board, and a new board is cheap and you will have spare motor drivers and Nano.

Got the new board last night and installed it.
Engraver is back up and running! :)
But, it didnt fix my weak power issue, :( I still think my laser has lost alot of power.
Gonna hold out and see what Agastar is planning to offer, that or get one of the Banggood 3.5w TTL lasers.

Glad you got it running again, too bad it didn't fix the power issue but I think you'll like the TTL laser.
