Engraving large images in T2 laser troubles
« on: December 18, 2016, 01:48:07 PM »
So im having the same issue and cant figure it out. Any ideas or suggestions or tutorials would help me alot.

Im trying to engrave an image but i want it very big. Say 10 inches x 10 inches.
Everytime i try and resize it in t2 software. It either freezes or says it will take forever to engrave.

Do i need to alter the picture somehow? So that it doesnt take days to engrave?

The picture is a jpeg, ive tried png as well still no luck.

I have inkscape if that helps.

The type of image doesn't matter, it's output size and resolution do.

Make the original image the correct size (in whatever photo editor you use), so for a 250 x 250 mm image at 0.2 resolution you want 1250 x 1250 pixels since there are 5 pixels per mm. Set T2Laser to 0.2 resolution and load the image, it should be the correct size - press the "i" key to show the information overlay and you can see the size.

If it's on wood, reducing the resolution to 0.2 will probably have minimal effect on the result but will make it faster.

Yes, nothing better. Just make sure you save it at the resolution (pixels) you plan to engrave. The print resolution would be 127 DPI but you don't need to worry about that, just set pixels to what you need.

Your resolution must be set to 0.05... no wonder it's taking days to engrave!

The laser beam is wider than that so you'll get a "mushy" (kinda blurred) and over burned image.

When i set it to 0.05 now it says 1829 minutes?
Compared to 0.2 which was 437 minutes?

1250 pixels should take that long should it.?
250 mm

So heres what i tried . Resizing image in photoshop setting image to 1250 pixels . (250mm)

Saving png. Opening it up in t2 laser setting resolution to 0.2 ...then i tried 0.05 and both are saying it will take forever.

I would guess 6-8 hours depending on complexity, you aren't going to get much better than that unless you further reduce resolution at the expense of quality.

I was shocked when I got the 3D Printer at how long seemingly simple jobs take, but of course that can be left overnight or when you go to work and it won't burn the house down.
