Eleks Laser burning a hole in one spot. Not moving
« on: April 26, 2016, 10:21:15 PM »
I recently received my Laser Engraver. After assembly I downloaded the Benbox software. When I switch on the power the laser comes on immediately and stays on. Even when I upload a picture the laser stays on and the stepper motors do not move. I have loaded the hex file for the Nano but still nothing moves. What am I doing wrong. I am still a newbie when it comes to these machines. Please help.

You came to the right place. Here there be geniuses. (I'm not one of them.)

Can you post some info about your laser? Certain varieties have more issues than others.

1) from whom did you buy it? (Bangood, AliExpress, Gearbest, other)
2) what is the max power of the laser head? (2w, 5.5w, other)
3) which board version is it? (Eleks L1, L2, other)

Many people have problems with these things. The folks here will help you get it working. The OEM software is pretty bad; there are other firmware, software options that can make things infinitely better.

One other thing I forgot. It's a no-brainer, but try to read as many topics on this forum as possible. You'll be surprised at how a very small misconfiguration can render the machine an ugly paperweight.

I bought from Gearbest. I believe it is T2. 2.5w  You have to excuse me, I am a total beginner. Was hoping to us it for some rudimentary picture engraving. I did download the software from the one dropbox link on the forum.

Welcome Pierre.

Don't worry, we will help you get it working correctly - it's most likely something very simple. A couple of things come to mind.

1. Make sure the switch furthest from the power input is not depressed (or your laser will be on permanently), however, the motors would still function correctly.

2. Since the motors don't work either, are you sure the correct firmware is loaded?

Use the LX-Nano one I posted here: http://benboxlaser.us/index.php?topic=50.msg348#msg348

Use XLoader to flash it to the Nano, so you can see the responses.

P.S. jlauzon is very modest, he's a genius at producing great results with these lasers.

I am having the same problem with the exact same machine.  I tried the LX-nano hex and it still does not work.  I wasn't sure which chip to use with the x-loader, so I just loaded it with Benbox.  Anyway, I still can't get Benbox to work, but the slew buttons work, so I know its not the hardware, its the operator.

Do the motors move?

If not, then it's likely the firmware. You just need to use the right one for your machine.

Or the stepper motor drivers. They do require setting the current limits and do not (personal experience) work when inserted backwards.
