laser cutting out
« on: January 02, 2017, 04:23:13 AM »
Hi there.
If this is entered in the wrong place then I apologise

I am a complete newbie not only to lasers but also to computers and also to forums

I managed to build a 2.5w Benbox laser and got it working  the second day I tried it the laser does not cut out it moves from one point of a sketch to the other and burns a line straight linew across.
When the sketch is finished it goes to the home position and sits there burning.

What have I done wrong

Welcome Stuart,

Is it possible you have the "weak" laser button pressed, if not, it sounds like the MOSFET on the board has failed and is now shorted so the laser is permanently on. This may have been caused by using the "weak" laser button for too long.

If you aren't handy with a soldering iron and multimeter then you should just replace the board. They're pretty cheap and you'll have spare motor drivers and Nano microprocessor.

many thanks ZAX for the advise   I have ordered another board and have soldered a new MOSFET onto the existing board  see if that works
