Makeblock - Laserbot (PENDING CONTROLLER BOARD FROM LASERBOT)
« on: January 02, 2017, 08:28:21 AM »
Hi Ralph,

I got myself a laserbot from makeblock, as a start laserengraver.
But the software is kind of bad. I would like to us bencutlaser, but i can't seem to get them to work.
Could you help me with this?
I think it's the flashing that is not working or the hex file that is not good.

Hope to get it working soon.

Welcome to the forum...!!!

We should start with trying to work with their firmware...can you flash that back in?

Are you able to see any of the gcode that the machine generates? I need to see some samples of it.

I tried to google for information on the firmware they are using but I could not find anything on it.

Are you able to export the gcode it produces?

This is a very different platform as I see they are using a MegaPi controller board, with a Mega2560 CPU...is that what your system has?

Here is their technical spec page for this controller: http://www.makeblock.com/megapi

But I still cannot find anything about what firmware they are using.

Thanks for the fast reply already,

I can't get the G-code out of the Software (mlaser), i flashed it back with there Hex-file.
It still works with mLaser but when i Connect with the universal Gcode sender, nothing much happens, I can send commands and make it to run but not very good.
It works with the Mega2560 CPU, like you linked.

I got the First gcode, that is include with the software maybe that can help.
Also the hex file in in there.

I think we have a good shot at getting BCL to work on your LaserBot:

1. See attachment. Your gcode helped me to see what BCL needs to change in how it handles some gcode words. I manually made the changes and you can see the successful results. However, there is more testing to be done, but the initial results are promising.

2. I've found out that the LaserBot uses Marlin 3D printer firmware.

This firmware is using 'P' for power and BCL is using 'S' since that is what our standard laser machines use, but I can change this for the LaserBot.

The gcode that you uploaded from your LaserBot doesn't strictly follow the Grbl standards, this I'm assuming is from your current software mLaser, but in any event, this won't be a problem since BCL will obviously be generating its own gcode.

3. What is your connection baud rate? 115200?

I just checked the baud rate is 115200.

So I will be able to use BCL without have to flash my mega again?
The mLaser is good for photo lasering.
Thanks already.

UPDATE

Paul has been working late into the night on the Marlin Parser plug-in for BCL. It is finished and I am testing it.

The P255 gcode word for laser power and M04 are now supported in the Marlin Parser.

You have to wait until I send you a link to download the Marlin version of BCL for you to try out.

In the mean time, you should have BCL installed and if you do, can you connect to your LaserBot using BCL? You can't do anything else at the moment but can you connect to it?

I contacted the makers of LaserBot and they have agreed to send me a controller board so I can get BCL to work with it. This will take some time but I will update this thread when I receive it.

Sorry for the delay.

UPDATE: The LaserBot sales dept contacted me today asking for my mailing address so I guess they will ship out the controller board to me within the next 24 hours.
