settings for Stepper Driver ?

I am playing with different Stuff so i need to know what i need to setup for the motors ..full step half step 1/4 stepp?

Trying the cnc 3.0 shield my gauntry runs to fast and crashed hard into the corner it was full step ...with ramps 1.4 it runs fine but not smooth also setup on full step .....what are the setting in L7 ??

The standard is 1/16th, but if you are designing your own machine you can choose 1/8th. It will reduce the minimum step resolution but double the potential speed of your machine and improves torque. Just change the settings in Grbl.

I think the L7 has the stepping hard wired to 1/16.

Yes, it does. You can change it by cutting traces.

1/16th = 80 steps per mm or 0.0125 mm per step, which is significantly more precision than needed.

Obviously 1/8th = 40 or 0.025 and 1/4th = 20 or 0.05 which is still sufficient.

So why would you choose 1/4 over 1/16?

Increased potential speed and higher torque, but the negative result is the motors may sound "rougher" and you could get harmonics at different speeds.
