Since I will cut for the most part I will be using 100% I guess it doesn't matter but I just want to set it up right.  I am going to go with 255.  I know this is probably a ridiculous question but is seems there ought to be some sort of documentation with the board and laser (but guess that would be asking too much) that would help with setup.

How do you know which firmware you have?  I am the kind of guy that tries to really understand what I am messing with.  I was able to get perfect 90 degree cuts on 3/32 balsa that was about medium hardness speed 19/17 inch  100% 3 passes.  Now that I have it so I have an accurate way to put the piece back down after checking.  Have you ever checked a piece after a cut and decided to run one more pass?  I kept lowering the speed on the 3/32 until it cut thru but with varying hardness some places cut easily some don't go thru.  I don't want to make the kerf any larger then necessary.  But one side of the wood cut thru at 26/22 inch and with 3 passes that would make a big difference on how fast the cut would run.

255 is fine...you've tested with both and 255 works best for you.
