Upgrade NEJE DK-8-KZ to DK-8-3
« on: January 17, 2017, 10:12:12 AM »
Hi,

I also have bought a very small engraver, the NEJE DK-8-KZ with 1000 mW laser.
This version is for making engravings by dropping a bitmap into their program and then upload it to the engraver.
I would like to try to upgrade this machine to a DK-8-3, which is a Grb-machine.
The board they use is a own development.

With that version I am hoping to use it with T2Laser and/or BenCutLaser.
The small size of 38 mm by 38 mm is big enough for my purposes to make miniature furniture.

Hopefully anyone has done such a conversion.

Regards
Bert

I thought they still used the ATmega328 so it's basically a Nano, depending on their pin outs it may be compatible with standard firmware or perhaps the firmware they provide will work with BCL and T2Laser.

I don't have one of those systems to test it but would be happy to work with you on a solution.

Hi Zax and Ralph,

The board is not recognised by the Arduino IDE and unfortunately they do not provide the firmware.http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Setup-and-Use-the-NEJE-DK-5-Pro-5-Laser-Eng/step6/Connecting-the-NEJE-DK-5-Pro-5-to-computer/ you see the board.

It works out of the box with their software. I can try to put Grbl 0.9 or 1.1 into it. I probably first going to take out the board and determine which pins are used for what. The total board is very small. It has six chips. Four are driving the steppers and one is communicating and the last biggest is the microprocessor, probably a ATmega328 as you say. The pause switch can be used for the weak setting as this is also done by the software   Ut I have not yet found the drviver for the laser.

If the ram size on this board (I know nothing about it) is similar to the Nano, you might want to start flashing with 0.9i as it has a slightly (I believe) smaller footprint than 1.1e. The is that tests out ok and works, then you can try 1.1e and test with that firmware.

It looks to me that the CPU is not a AVR328. Too many pins. Unless of course I am not able to count anymore.

You are right. The CPU is the IAP15F2K61S, which is in principle a 80C51 processor, so totally different than the AVR.

I have also send a mail to trusfer to see if they can sell me a different board for gcode.
They have it in their program, so I think it must be possible.

Otherwise I will mount a standard EleksMaker board.
I would like tu use this small machine for cutting and mot for engraving.

It's supposed to support G-code, so you could save it to the SD card and try running from there.

Hi Zax,

The very cheap versions do not have an SD-card, so unfortunately that option does not apply.
