Are you sure? Because according to this in their FORUM, they just use it as a solution for those who tried to upload HEX and erased their board.

"we do not provide the firmware for any body due to the commerical secret,(this board support the Grbl originally and do not need to flash it.)"

I'm sure what I was told by the man running their LaserAxe program. I suspect they have not updated their forum (and I don't know if they will update it).

So, they are going to allow users to flash Grbl 0.9, so that's a big and very important step for them take.

I have asked if they will provide the .hex file in case a user wants to flash back to their LaserAxe factory Grbl.

I also asked if they would make their source available.

I also asked if they would remove the CNCC.exe firmware lock they currently have, which locks this software into their firmware.

I'm still waiting for answers to these three questions.

Do we know at which point new units allow flashing?  I just built one of these and would like to flash it and get away from the software that came bundled with it.

Wait! don't flash anything!
You will just kill the board!

Your LaserAxe board should be ready.

I think you should forget Benbox, because it will flash it and buy T2 from Zax or BCL from Ralph (Administrator), depends if you want more engrave or more cut.

Welcome :)

Thanks!

By ready you mean I can just buy either of those pieces of software and I'm off to the races?

If so that's great news.  The CNCC software is horrible :)

No flashing, should work native, flashing will destroy it again i think,

Please post the Grbl HEX file for atmega328p.
Thanks

Dear Ferenc:
This board support the Grbl, do not need you to flash it. If you flash it,it will not work any more

will show up soon with new users anyway :D

I have asked if they will provide the .hex file in case a user wants to flash back to their LaserAxe factory Grbl.

If they not provide .hex, it should be still able to dump it somehow, right? Any experience with dumping Arduino anyone? I was dumping just phones / pda's / tablets / gpsnavis :) no tiny bugs like Arduino  :)

I also asked if they would make their source available.

I also asked if they would remove the CNCC.exe firmware lock they currently have, which locks this software into their firmware.

According to detailed specification of Laser Axe in J&J's store on Aliexpress
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/32616126046/32616126046.html
Software is opensource! :D I can dig in it a bit if you want, cause i've spent some money there recently. Maybe there is other way  ::)

The same description also says:

"Fully assembled kit, no need to assemble"

and 11 lines later:

"This kit will deliver in unassembled as it's too big to shipping, you will need to assemble it yourself under our video instruction."

AVRDude can read the EEPROM and save a hex in a similar way to uploading it, however, it's fairly simple to prevent this by setting a fuse. I don't know if they did this or not, but either way that just makes it more difficult but not impossible providing you have an AVR programmer.

Woohoo!  Everything works.  Was able to get a small image engraved in wood before the trial limit ran out.  Just purchased T2L.  Thanks for the help everyone :)

I last asked my 3 questions on Jan 16th...today I sent an email to my LaserAxe contact again...asking the same 3 questions!

i've noticed they provided some news about Benbox support meantime

But i will be very carefull and dont trust them everything. Acording to my experience, chinesse guys are very good liars. They call you dear friend but just want to push you into purchase, and they would do potentionaly anything for that, so who cares about some lies about detailed specs.

And according to comments from backers on kickstarter, they know very well that promises dont hurt.

Hope that i am wrong, aftaid i am not.
