Eleksmaker made good on their promise
« on: April 14, 2017, 12:40:30 PM »
Eleksmaker's Z told me they were working on a z axis for us.  It had been a few months and I didnt expect much if they actually did produce something (sorry for my lack of faith Z).  At best, I expected what bill made (not that what he made is bad, in fact that was the best I had seen yet)  Yesterday Eleksmaker revealed the fruit of its looms (fruit of its labor??!? I prefer looms).  For those of you that dont monitor their forum here it is.  Notice it has a fine tune adjustment knob at the top.  This would make your laser a 3 axis machine so an upgrade to a Mana 3 axis would be required.  I'll update when bangoood lists it for sale!  I know I want one with a new 7watt!!!

Is it a manual or software Z axis?

Software controlled, they do say you would need to upgrade from Mana SE to the Mana CNC board.

Any idea on pricing ?
I have a Z axis coming from banggood already, hopefully not too heavy.

Hey...I'm in the middle on converting my 3D Printer frame into a laser machine because it already has a robust Z axis design -- but -- I'm very interested in this Z axis design for my main laser machine  :D

I'd like an idea of the price too?

I assume you can tell that that is a motor, not a laser on the Z-Axis module, right. That said, anything that will hold a motor will hold a laser.

Haha yes I can see that. The eleksmaker CEO specifically called it a z axis for elekslaser a3 and a5 systems. You notice the hole for the motor is square so I guess it is the same size as a laser heat sync or will have an adapter.

Sure is cantilevered out from the bridge. I wonder what problems if any that might create down the pike.

Instead of waiting on Eleksmaker and banggod, i am thinking of making my own.

I have consider the Shapeoko and x carve. I suspect that the eleks z axis will be overpriced and under powered. I have the mana cnc board. And extra steppers, just looking for ideas on the framing.

I presume the laser module mounts though the rectangular aperture in the acrylic but this suggests it needs mounting points on the laser module end plate not on the backplate.  It must be very large (judging by the dimensions given for the package - 45cm x 18cm x 7cm!!) and will lose a lot of engraving area on the Y-axis, hopeless for A5 users I would have thought. It will also impose a heavy rotational cantilever loading and an possibly acceleration and deceleration issues on the X-axis if it realy does weigh 1.5kg (packaged weight) as they state!

No way that is 1.5kg, it would be around 600g I reckon, the larger all metal z axis is 1028g with a 100W spindle motor and chuck fitted.

http://benboxlaser.us/index.php/topic,2120.0.html

I have not had any issues with driving this around at regular speeds, the acceleration and deceleration allow it to ramp up speed just like having a laser on it, so fast travel of 3000 works fine.

They are not cutting corners either, priced those double ended steppers the other day and balked at the price, nearly double the regular price, nice to have the option of Z drive or manual, I like it.
