EleksDraw - initial test results
« on: April 15, 2017, 02:47:14 PM »
These were done using cheap felt tip pens, so I think the results are pretty good.

After looking at what he has been creating I am ready to put a pen on the light weight CNC machine that I built and am no longer using. Inspired.
Laser: was an A3 2.0w TTL L6 Z axis now 2'x3'
OpenBuilds ACRO 510 w/ 2.0W TTL laser Cohesion Mini Z axis Homing switches
K40 Cohesion Mini 60W LightObject LPS
          80W Red-Black 500x700

cool is simply a subjective state of mind

I am busy, but having a lot of fun too.

Just checked the tracking for my EleksEgg and it finally cleared customs so that should arrive next week. It was there for 4 days, I bet they were trying to figure out what the heck it is  ::) and could it be used as a weapon  ;D

That's OK, plastic eggs will be on sale after Easter to practice on :D

It also works with spheres; golf balls, ping pong balls etc.

No, I can't take credit for the skull. I was looking for a design like JTICE engraved and found this image.

I did a quick pen test, very happy with this machine. It's also my first CoreXY system and really simple, one belt and 2 motors + a servo for the pen lift mechanism. It uses linear shafts/bearings so no wheel wobble issues and takes up minimal space.

Ok assembled my eleksdraw and started it up and so everything works. Letter drawing is a bit of. Must the belts be really very "tight" ? Circles is also not round. Any suggestions ?

I'm not sure if you followed my assembly guide or the official one but check that the belts aren't rubbing, some people got the standoffs mixed up from the control board and the idlers, that makes the belts touch the plates.

Also check the pen holder is tight, that's the weakest link on this machine but it does the job once you get it adjusted.

Ok machine is up and running ! I had to loosen the screws on the middle white part a bit and I am 90% happy with the performance so far. Might tighten the belts a bit more. Anybody figured out how to mount a fountain pen at a angle ? Also have to weed the fonts a bit because not all of them will work !

Yes, the 2 front and back are a problem if over-tightened.

I did find it necessary to tighten the belt more than I expected, again this is probably common for CoreXY systems.

I used a fountain pen but didn't think to angle it, that's a great idea.

What is the problem with the fonts?

Double line fonts takes forever! 😂 I wil have to sort the fonts into "single" stroke fonts and something like Ariel bold where it will draw the outline and then fill it. Hope it makes sense. O just a question I see that when you select the working area it only gives the laser area, a5 or a3 etc. maybe insert a custom a4 area in for eleksdraw or am I missing something again ? ( very possible!)
