PWM mod with different board (RESOLVED)
« on: May 06, 2017, 09:49:40 AM »
Hi all,
I'm prolly the guy asking noobie questions as this is not my area of expertise... but my circuit board is different than the one that is in the pictures.  Take a look at the picture below... is the thing I need to change the 5v in 12v??? or do i just not have to change anything??

What is the name on your controller board?

Since you don't have the jumper pin, most likely your board is already setup for PWM, but we need to know the name of your board.

Seems to be same as mine which I purchased from ebay. Basically a copy of eleks from the pictures I've seen. Mine does not have a jumper except for 5v to 12v jumper just like olands. If anyone figures this out I'd like to read it too. Wondering if need to buy another board to achieve full power.

We still need a name on the board so we have a base line reference. We can't really ID a board from a photo.

Either study the board and determine where the pins go or take a couple of quality pictures of the tracks on both sides and post them up, it will not be difficult to work out this board.
There is no 12v-5v buck supply, so any 5v output will be a control signal only unless there is a power supply tucked away on the back of the board.

So this sounds like a no name clone board. Not much to go on.

The name does not matter, give me a photo of two.
Don't even need a photo, where does that pin marked 'in' connect to. Which pins connect to the laser header.
Just pick the thing up and actually LOOK at it.

Looks like you should be good, leave the laser set on 12V (although I don't see a buck converter so I doubt it does anything anyway). I'm pretty sure it's already setup for Grbl 1.1 but if it's a LaserAxe clone don't overwrite the firmware unless you have the original or are sure it's Grbl compatible.

I know this is resolved but to further confirm or help . I have made a cut with this board at 7 passes on a 5.5 laser using BCL trial. With all I have read from here and a few emails to admin I have done some testing. The cut was made on a piece of 3mm project wood panel. I am still very new and sure I could probably increase effectiveness by tweaking my settings in my cut tool parameters.

With that said I don't believe (with the information I've received) that I would be successful with the board not in pwm. Physically I can notice a power increase that leads me to believe the board is in pwm and pulsing the laser up as it should.

Yes, your statements are correct.
