Stock Eleksmaker laser height.
« on: May 11, 2017, 07:27:55 AM »
I decided to flip my X carriage back the 'correct' way (motor underneath), last time I had it with the front peice of perspex up the right way but they rear piece.. motor on top.
A lot if the time I would just mount the blue alumiaium laser holder extrusion by one hole down lower, I find both lasers I have function better using a focal length around 2-3 inches.

So .. the oroblem is the stock setup is just too high, I could build a platform under ithe bed section or remove the legs .. but the thing needs a longer extrusion imo.

What is everyone else doing height wise ?

I have a piece of waste board that I lasered a grid onto and just stuck it into the slot in my extrusion. Sorry, I don't have a picture but here is where I got the Idea

Well thats just the perfect answer I was looking for cause I simply had not thought of doing that.

I sorta feel like a moron now cause I have seen pictures of it done too.

Done, the piece of handy scrap ply I had underneath was never cut to size, it just happened to fit underneath, 10mm off one side and a cutaway for the controller and it fits fine.
No idea what the neighbours think of my sawbench at 1:30am but .. meh.

New ball bearing 30mm fan came for the laser this morning, its a right little screamer too.

That is exactly how I do it.  And the aligning lines help square things up!

I figure I will probably need to flip it over and reburn that one as now the board locates pretty well and I doubt that grid is exact anymore since I chopped it to size.
I feel a hankering to laser something coming on, time to check it..

When you do that, if you have any wiggle in your board at all, push it to a specific corner.  Then you know if you bump it just push it back to that coroner and it will be square again.  You can use T2 to create a grid all the way out to the extents of your engraveable space.  I made a quick video on it.  New microphone and trying a new software for screen capture.  I am getting a new pc next week or the week after that can better handle 3d modeling and video editing.  I am holding off buying software until then.
