Cable stress relief
« on: May 11, 2017, 10:54:22 PM »
It is important to not have cable movement at the connectors or they will eventually fail.
I cable tied to the motor and to the controller spacers originally, I have snipped off the ties a few times now to reorient wires and it is a bit overkill plus the wires just being long enough means problems at machine extents sometimes.

The current elksmaker kits come with a spiral wrap, cut it in half to make it easier to work from the ends of the cables accurately imo.
What I found is that it is better to just guide the wires, so attach the cable ties to something firm but not holding the cables, then spiral wrap the ties along with the cables.

So I used 2 large ties attached to the idler axles, kink the ties in the right place.

Solidoodle V2 Pro
Wanhao I3+ touch
Hacked Roland DXY-880
CNC3018 engraver
CNC Plasma (work in progress)

That's similar to what I did, seems to have worked well. I just zip tied to the screw thread which on mine (older design) stuck out 10mm from the back.
