I am definitely having backlash on the x axis. I suppose the belts have about a quarter inch of flex, maybe 3/16. Disabling bidirectional scanning corrects the issue, but obviously takes twice as long.   :-\

A friend with 3D printer (and expertise) printed tension adjustors for my A5 unit. Great upgrade.

Do you have the stl file? I hope to get a 3D printer soon (I know, I have said that for a while) and could use something like that for my A5

If you remove the belts (yes I know, not again!!), does the X axis move smoothly if you push it (slowly) by hand? It should.

A tensioner would be great. I've struggled with the set screw setup, especially on the x axis, and I've noted the belt seems to have slipped a touch. I also saw some feet that secure the frame to the table on thingiverse. Can setting the stepper driver current help prevent backlash?

I removed the belts this morning. The x-axis  moves quite smoothly. I didn't notice any resistance other than the wheels riding the frame.

Can you 'wiggle' the X carriage mount? The acrylic part? Mine moved smoothly back and forth but the acrylic mount was not 'snug'...I could still wiggle it around. I had to drill larger wheel mount holes so I could take up the play and get a good snug fit and still have the X axis move smoothly. A fair amount of work.

I don't think so, but I'm at Walmart  :-[ I will check when I get home. I checked everything this morning with a machine square and that all checked out wonderfully. I'll make sure there is no wiggle as soon as I go home.

Thanks to all. I set my pots and secured the frame to my table. I now have much better results.
I burnt this at a speed of 2000. All letters close in all fonts and the double print has been virtually eliminated. ( Less than a hairs width of backlash remains) Thanks to all.

That's looking great, especially at 2000. Well done!
