new 15000mw 450 nm pak any info please
« on: May 20, 2017, 05:19:09 PM »
new so please  pardon any mistakes  now purchase a 40cm x 50cm 500mw ebay laser at same time  ordered 15w 450nm package to install on it not using ttl yet can't seem to get it to output much power watts no means of knowing what output is but not even close to the approx. 8w output  give or take the way it is connected just like 500mw only used the 5amp 12v power supply it came with
Now first is after  looking around for spec.on input power needs it sure does seem like a 15 watt ld to-18 5.6mm open can ld would  require approx. 20 amps at 5vcc to reach it's
max output wattage of course it would  half to be temp controlled with more than a wow fan that come with it numbers are not ment to be accu. just ballpark like to thank anyone who might be able to help out also looking forward to getting to know and help out anyway i can

I think they are being sneaky and the 15W might well be the input power not the output, FAQ on banggood for one these says 12v 3A is fine.
Somebody else classified the output at 15W as 6W, not measured though.
Since they keep saying 'pulsed' I suspect the driver might be designed to drop off power rapidly.
Cannot find much info on these or even the diode type, so good luck with it and let us know how it goes.
I don't thonk anyone here has one yet .. could be wrong.

Think ZAX came up with a reply about one of these some time ago....  I am not too sure it does what it says...and if it does, then its probably over rated and won't last as long as,  say a lower wattage job.
Chinese are well known for "boosting" details of goods.  Specs have to be taken with a pinch of salt. :)
.
Lasers are wonderful machines..not ONLY  can they cut a finger off BUT  they can also cauterise it at the same time.....

SAFETY -  IS NO ACCIDENT

I saw one seller say that 15W was a number 'relative to its burning ability' not an actual wattage.

A bit like 200W stereos that run off C cell batterys and 30000mSh powerbanks the size of a cigarette packet.

I am surprised Kia vans aren't listed with a 300mph top speed at 200mpg.

It's a 6W diode that is pulsed using a very short duty cycle, so peak output may be measured at 15W but actual RMS output (averaged over a few hundred mS is no higher than 8W).

I doubt they actually measured 15W but based it on the in rush current at start-up, which is of course totally false from an engineering stand point.

Regarding the current requirement, assuming 12W it would require 8A @ 1.5V or 1A at 12V so with motors you should use a 5A power supply to be safe (so it sounds like you are OK).

Makes sense, but how di you determine what PWM value it can do continuously on what is the duration of a pulse and the maximum duty cycle, like how do you go about writing gcode for something with this 'feature'.

As measured on my 5.5W module: 6W delivered by the laser is more like 40W consumed by the laser power module.

thanks guy's i get the jest of all the replys so i think zax talked bout the size of the ld i'ts a 6w is this fact or guess i can not find info on the ld within i ask cuz after going back to read bout 15w module even the small printit stated 15w output [pulsed] not 15w ld make sence the mount would melt down with out proper cooling say a small reffer lol all that being said it still will not cut 3mm ply with multy passes i got it to make or engrave/mark alum.tags for our outboard motor brackets ie: Cust-Alum marine the seller clearly stats that it will do that like i said cant cut ply, acryl.,or much of any thing

And remember kids these machines are not toys keep the glasses on and lights burning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can still return and move up to a small 25w to 35w direct diode or cheap used dpss and attach to the machine
                                                                            Thanks guy's

@Stonemull using a Coherent laser power meter that records the peak and RMS power.

@ggallant571 that's atypical, most laser diodes have efficiency of 1.6 to 2.4 based on my tests (I used 2X as an example).

@[krazy] Output wavelength and duty cycle (frequency) are more important than power, take this 25W diode as example. It wouldn't cut paper but would be excellent for a laser speed gun.

That has similar ratings to what we used 30 years ago to measure ocean depth from an aircraft.
From memory we charged a 220nF cap to 200V and discharged it into the diode with a stud mount gold plated SCR.

I just hooked up the 5.5W diode to a 3A bench supply with voltage/current meters. When the PWM exceeds 70% the 3A supply at 12V is maxed out. To me, that indicates it is supplying 36W. Assuming that 1A is going to the motors that leaves 2A or 24W for the diode. My guess is that the laser output is about 20% of the input. The remaining 80% is heat.

Perhaps there is a problem with the voltage/current regulator powering the diode but this is the same as I measured when I first got the unit last July.

Thank you guys & gals if  there are any of course  this makes my decision easier start reinforcing the gantry for install of let's say 100w DPSS nd;yag???lmao

     Thanks  ladd's -N- Lassie's and lastly
