I've seen his postings (Dan). I offered to work with him if he wanted to test BCL to work with his CO2 laser and he said he was interested but that was the last I hear from him.

Looking into this I also found this, with a very useful wiring diagram.

Didnt Zax convert a CO2 laser operate on a arduino based board and firmware?

I know nothing about firmware and such, but at their bones a cnc device is steppers and rails.

The conversion should not difficult at all.

If there is a hard part it would be the electrical side in terms of powering the laser.

Yes @Zax did do that.

He might jump in here and tell us again what he did. I remember some things he did but I might get my information wrong so I don't want to say...I'll let him tell us.

I did, using an L6 board (the Mana CNC would be the current replacement) but that's because my laser has a z-axis motor most of the cheap K40's do not.

I removed the connectors from the old board and made a small conversion board but if I were doing it today I would probably buy the Cohesion board as it's plug and play for $99.

@Zax,

Are your stepper motors like the ones on our laser diode machines?

I suspect the newer systems have smaller / cheaper steppers but on mine the Y and Z axis are NEMA 17 (the same) but the X axis is a smaller pancake stepper.

They will all run from the same drivers, just set the current accordingly.
