Banggood Eleks Z Axis Kit - any issues?
« on: August 06, 2017, 04:56:35 AM »
Are there any problems adding the 719grams EleksZAxis DIY Kit to the movement of the x & y axis?
My A3 ELEKS LASER gantry has unstable geometry no matter what I do, so I imagine this extra 719g with an ELEKS 142g 2.5W laser module or a ELEKS 230g 5.5W laser module, or the 210g spindle motor will cause a lot of added stress on the gantry movement. That would be adding near a kilogram of weight.

So the only advantage to having a manual Z axis adjustment capability would be for focusing?

It has a stepper so converts the machine to 3-axis, and it supports their 555 spindle motor for light duty CNC machining.

The mount plates I recieved from banggood/eleksmaker were not cut well. Many of the bolt holes are oblong and there is about half mm error where the start and finish points of the cut do not meet.

Wheels is another issues; you very likely have wooble issues because of the due to a lack of consistentancy of wheel size.

If you have pampered your laser assembly to correct manufacturer issues; the weight of the eleks z kit would not, in my opinion, cause the gantry to flex up and down. The 6mm plates should withstand reasonable drilling or cutting attempts.

If you have not taken the time to pamper your assembly, I would think a Z axis will be nothing but more aggravation.

The kickstarter for the eleksmill shows aluminum being milled/cut/engraved - however one wishes to describe the process.

The EleksMill has leadscrews and twin linear rods, it's much better suited to medium duty CNC work than a converted laser.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was not really considering getting the Z axis mount, just noticed that it could be easy to be deceived when all the gantry mechanical aspects dont get optimized, and you add 1 kilogram to it. CNC is another matter I see.

Should I lock this topiuc or delete it?

Just leave it, others can learn from it and add their reports if they try the z-axis kit.
