grblgnu software
« on: August 24, 2017, 09:20:52 PM »
I think this might be some useful stuff, not managed to get it to connect to my machine yet though, I have asked him a question on his youtube channel as he seems active there.

Basically I uploaded grbl 1.1e to my machine and still get 'grbl not detected' on the correct com port.
I have a bunch of 888888888888888<<<<<88888888888 in the status window from the machine.
If I close grblgnu and then open the port in realterm I get the following ..

Quote
8888888888888888888888888888888
Grbl 1.1e ['$' for help]

So it looks like grbl is hanging or something similar, I have confirmed that grblgru expects 115200 baud, so its not that... will report back if I get a response.

Managed to get it running, when it is 'bugged out' so to speak, the spindle starts up at about half speed.
If I open grblgnu, the spindle starts, hit reset button on board, close grblgru, reopen grblgru .. tada, it is now connected.

Still, its buggy, the jog controls for example work for moving left, forwards and down but the opposite direction is no movement and the command it is sending is "$J=F200 G91 X0"

so yeh, its not going anywhere with a relative movement of 0.

Will see what I can get out of it anyway.

Ok, still issues,
I will say that the simulation side works ok, if I load up one of my pcb cutting gcodes it visualises it and the sim runs fine but if I try to send it to grbl it quite quickly fails with a
"grbl line length exceeded".

I am going to keep it around as a visualising and sim tool for the time being and maybe wait for an update.

Check your other com port parameters (data bits, stop bits, parity, etc.).

No option to change anything in grblgru.
Also it works without changing anything after a reset, so comms parameters are correct.
it also works in realterm simply by connecting after it has returned some 8888>>>> stuff, the text I quoted above was a cut and paste fro mthe terminal window.
So it is grbl sending it, but I think it is locked up.
