« on: September 07, 2017, 04:35:44 AM »
Got this 5.5w engraver with doggy board, want to install proper TTL/PWM board on it, but where to get it from and HOW TO install. Seems they been sold together with actual laser module only. Please direct me in right direction.

Just buy an Eleks laser module and plug it in the laser connector on your Mana board. Simple!

As zax says, buying a laser with the ttl already wired is probably your cheapest easiest way to go.  I havent seen any ttl boards I that look like they would be easy to wire up.

You can get a new driver, but unless you have good electronics knowledge you will just blow the diode. It is essential to understand how to set the correct current limit and voltage for the diode.

I'm ok with soldering if i know what and where to solder/unsolder. If there's someone who has done this or there's actual diagram how to (even drawn could do) i woul be alright to do it. :)

You need to ask yourself what you want? Do you want it just to work? If so, buy a new laser module.

It like buying an Apple computer (it just works) vs building your own (much more fun if you are into that sort of thing).

When learning electronics and electronic components (I am still far from an expert), I would spend more than a week building, researching and rebuilding something as simple as a regulated voltage board..... or I could have bought one for $1. It's all in what you want. Do you want to burn stuff now or have the experience of building, researching and rebuilding?

I would buy the Eleksmaker module that Zax suggested then. They are made to better standards than what you will find on bangood or ebay.

I have a 2.3 watt laser and love it. Ralph (Admin) does a LOT of cutting and went to a 1.6 watt because the beam is very narrow and better for cutting than higher powered lasers. A 5 watt laser usually does not have a circular beam but instead a rectangle. Honestly, I think a 2.3 watt is about the best general purpose wattage out there for finding our your machine's capabilities.

Buy a new laser module to work with for now and then do the research on how to get your 5.5 up and running. Then you have TWO lasers!!!!!!!!

Yes Loki I'm going to do what you saying it sounds logical as well. Going to get 2.5w eleksmaker and while i play with 2.5w i can do parallel research on my 5.5w and like you say, once done i got two lasers. Boom. :) as simple as that hahaha

Awesome. I think you will be happy with the 2.3w

Report back. I have an old Eleksmaker module (not blue, so can't confirm it is actually eleksmaker) and it works great.
