2500mW laser beam issues
« on: September 19, 2017, 11:00:56 AM »
I'm not sure if this is the right subforum for this kind of thread so if mods see a better place - please move.

Hello everyone,
Recently I have created this thread on EleksMaker forum hoping someone will be able to answer my questions.

Long story short: I have trouble focusing my laser beam into something that would actually resemble a useful dot.

Zax's advice is to contact seller and request replacement since this one is defective. Anyone else had this problem before? Did you correct it somehow, replaced the module or just didn't care? Since it does better job at focusing at short distances moving focusing plane MUCH closer to the lens helped a bit but I'm still looking for any ideas to further improve laser performance in case I don't get a new one.

This is what my 2500 mW laser looks like when focused. I did not know that this wasn't normal, even though I have wondered at it a bit. I have done a number of projects without issue and also seem to able to cut thin veneers and so on. It would be interesting to hear what you ended up doing?

That is what my beam looks like. I have a new lens that I hope will do a better job of focusing. But I thought I understood that the diode lasers do not emit a circular beam.
