Dongle purchase price
« on: October 22, 2017, 09:22:15 AM »
As I understand the dongle price is $79 US and I must supply the dongle.

I already have a registered version of T2, do I pay an additional $79 for a dongle? Or is there a reduced price for those who already purchased T2?

If you have purchased your single PC license in the last 6 months I allow upgrading for the difference ($40). This offer could change at any time.

Send me an e-mail, that way I can provide all the information and links to the correct USB-Key's so there's no confusion.

All sorted out FTDI dongle working great. :)

Printed a tiny case for it.   As indicated this is an FTDI FT323RQ based com chip cut off from a Parallax Propeller USB Protoboard.
I bought a bunch of these a while back, for $5.00 each, used a few for propeller projects,  and chopped up one for this usb FTDI dongle board.
I also tested a SparkFun FTDI basic and it to tested out fine. :)

Yes I could have purchased one from Digikey.ca, but it would have been $30.00 total wish shipping (CAD),  that and the $51.00 (CAD) for the T2Laser dongle Upgrade cost, this was starting to pile up, so I looked for a cost effective solution, and ZAX was very helpful getting me up and running. :)    Now I just take my purple dongle into the basement when I want to use the laser cutter,  and bring it upstairs when I want to prep a file for cutting/engraving.  1 license, 1 dongel. :) very handy indeed.  PC upgrades also not a worry... :)

Cheers. :)

Cheers.

According to their documentation it supports FTDIChip-IDô which is what I use.

https://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/DataSheets/ICs/DS_FT232R.pdf

So if it's a genuine FTDI chip it will work as a dongle (almost any FT232 will as well) but of course there are many Chinese fakes that may function as a UART but won't support this feature.

Note: When I originally developed T2Laser most machines had a genuine Arduino Nano which uses the FTDI 232R UART so this feature was built-in, it was only when the Chinese clones became prevalent that a separate "dongle" was necessary.
