I hadn't even thought of this type of project until someone asked me to try it out. 4x6 birch plywood.

Things I learned: Baltic birch ply needs far higher laser power to get a good burn than the hardwood like cherry that I've been using for my wooden notebooks. This card I burned at speed 1000 and full power. On cherry, I use power 150 for a nice dark burn.

Also, I feel like my laser is struggling with accuracy on very small letters. You can't see it here because this text is pretty large, but at small sizes I get some ghosting and fuzziness that I feel like I didn't have before.

Anyway, some testing for me to do, but this recipe card came out nice. I think I'll be making a dozen or so for this person.

What power laser do you have again? I noticed my 2500mw has trouble with small letters but my 2000mw has an easier time. It might be the size of the dot that is causing trouble. Next spring I hope to get a 1.6w and maybe a 500mw to test my theory

Not a bad price. I just cut this down to size (so, thanks to the saw kerf,  this card is actually 3.75x5.75).

Good thinking. I actually have a 1.6w and a 500mw module in a box. I should get them out and see what I can do differently with those.

Someone saw a picture off the recipe card I did, and ordered a few of their own. One good thing from doing these is that I get a copy of a new caramel recipe. I'll have to try it out this Christmas.

Brilliant idea, I will make something similar with an old Speculoos recipe a friends grandmother gave me...
