Procedure for dongle registration
« on: November 29, 2017, 10:46:41 PM »
I am always messing with my computer hardware, so the dongle option might be the best for me....
What is the procedure to get a dongle registration.
What dongle do I need to buy, as these take up to a month to arrive from China, sigh, longer over Christmas :(
Thanks

The USB-Key "dongles" are by FTDI, you can usually get them locally (in many countries):

https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/ftdi-future-technology-devices-international-ltd/FTDI-USB-KEY/768-1075-ND/2441356

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/FTDI/FTDI-USB-Key/?qs=nswjyC6mNJreg%2F5esCqnTQ%3D%3D

http://www.futureelectronics.com/en/technologies/development-tools/development-tool-hardware/Pages/1003702-FTDI%20USB-KEY.aspx?IM=0

Many FTDI products are compatible, so you may already have a cable that will work. The problem is the proliferation of Chinese copies, since the features requires the genuine chip and driver to work. The fakes give a random ID code so won't work.
