Nice job. The detail is really sharp. Questions:

  1. Are the mirrors "frosted"?
  2. How many different colors (shades of gray) in the original image?
  3. How much image touchup work did you do?

Great questions

The mirrors look frosted after etching. I etch the back of the mirror ( Dont forget to invert the image when needed). The Mirror with Dive helmet has gray coating on back, mirror with anchor has blue coating. Both etchings produced a terrible smell. My setup was outside.

Only used black and white images.

As for pre-etching touch up. I first open the image in T2 and see how things look. I will used T2 image adjustment - brightness and contrast. I will then view in the laser control View option. If if does not look satisfactory I use gimp to make every px black or white.

What I have found regarding detail, pick a smallish detail then adjust the brightness & contrast to see how that detail might show up.
