You can get a cheap tape measure at Harbor Freight. Sometimes they are even free with another purchase.

Just stumbled across this thread @mrehmus - great tip. The cable to the X gantry on my A3 is always a constant hassle, dragging over large scale delicate work like paper & cardboard, and this is much simpler than a cable chain that I'd been thinking about. Thank you for sharing. 🙏

Very good idea. I like it.
I used a .175" wide black cable tie and wrapped the wires to it with wax string. Cheap too, just labor intensive though. Also would be problematic if one needed to change out the wire cable.
