Very typical observation. Makes it difficult to focus the beam to a sharp point. From my limited experience it is much worse with 5.5W than 1.6W modules. I recall a submission quite some time ago regarding the technical reasons.

When I want a more uniform burn width (kerf) in both X & Y, I manually rotate the rectangle 45 degrees.

If you have an eleksmaker laser module, This is an issues that eleksmaker has not provided a response to. The “laser diode” is a small gold colored wires that connect to a small (5mm wide, 1mm thick) plate. The laser rectangular beam should have small point.

It is a cheap 5.5W laser from Banggood. it is not listed anymore
but the laser power/ttl bord is just 3W. have tried to find one that is 5.5 watt but cant find any. just ones that are bundled with a laser

And yes it makes it difficult to focus

I probably have the same 5.5W. I think my lens cracked and it is sitting idle. Have switched to 2.5W & 1.6W modules which do have a much better focus. As I do mostly engraving this has been a very positive effect, especially on mirrors. BTW - the 5.5W was better on slate.

Given that, if a 5.5W or higher power module came on sale I would grab it because I am a certified laser addict.

CO2/K40 - that is where I do all my slate now. Handles my addiction quickly and easily.
