Old iPhone 5 and 6 retired uses?
« on: February 01, 2018, 08:52:27 AM »
I have a stack of 16 old iPhones that have good screens but might have bad chargers, batteries and such.
Anyone here have a link to ideas to use these for?
I would think that the screen could be used as an interface for something... sheesh its touch screen after all.
So, does anyone know what I might be able to turn these into?

I am in the process of trying to get some old android phones setup as small simple security cameras in my garage. One will monitor the garage door (motion detection, on detection the flash comes on if it is night and sends me the camera feed) and the other as a cam for the laser / 3D printer monitoring / recording time-lapse.
As you have iphones this might help;

Other uses could be to recycle the working parts ans sell those as spares, use the apple battery change offer to get the phones back into working order, make a cool internet radio alarm clock, music player for your car, remote control for your home automation, recipe display in your kitchen (depends on screen size) and even a car tracker (though this one is somewhat delicate as to its use..
If these are OTG compatible you might even be able to use then in a robotics project...
If you really dont care for them give them to some kids / schools with some educational apps loaded... their parents might hate you for this though!!
Another thought is that as you have so many BULLET TIME !!!there are other ways but here is one to get you started!!

or more interesting in your case;

or... build a screen made up of several phones...
I could go on... but work beacons!!
=)
let us know what you end up using them for...

The batteries are easy to replace. Test the chargers. With that many you should be able to get at least half working. Then sell them. The 6's still have decent value. The 5's work decently too! Any you cannot get working part out or look for someone buying them for parts for repair!
