Which Stepper controller?
« on: February 12, 2018, 12:44:49 AM »
Hi Guys,

I just cooked one of my A4988 boards.

No biggy Ive been in Electronics for over 30 years so I know "sh** Happens" and there cheap as chips so I have ordered a few more, but, I noticed that there is a whole series of stepper driver boards available and they all look like they are pin compatible with the A4988.

My question is ....  which board do people think is the best for a Chinese laser cutter and why ?

Any input would be appreciated.

I have ordered from 3 different vendors and noticed significant differences in the current limiting. There are 2 published sense resistors. See pololu.com. Luckily they are 3 different colors, red, green, blue.

A DRV8825 is a better choice; a TMC2130 maybe the best.
Have a look at Marco's pimping of the EleksMaker laser machine including the replacement with TMC2130 drivers:

Do you have already thought about a solution yourself or is a part of the problem sitting in front of the screen?
