BCL program hangs (CLOSED)
« on: February 13, 2018, 01:49:30 AM »
Hi Ralph !
I wanted to cut out a part from  a 2mm hard plywood.
I did a test cut:
Speed 150,   Power 100 %,  Passes  50.
It was OK.

I started cutting, estimated time 2 h 50 min
After 1h 13 minutes the program stopped and frozen.
The laser beam has not switched off.
I've tried 4 times and the result is always the same.
I tested with VLM but walked there without stopping.
I tested with a laser beam off (I switched off the laser diode on the control panel), it was also good.

Since the Gcoode Job Status window does not show anything,  when I push the Send To Laser button to jump to the end of the list and can not be moved, I do not know where to stop.
In the VLM mode the program is very easy to follow.
Where can the problem be?

Win 10  and  BCL 2.9a

Sincerely, Imre

Do you have the computer enter "sleep" mode? Can you do 2 sets of 25 passes? If possible, post the source file for analysis if you expect others to verify/duplicate your problem.

Imre,

1. You need to be using the latest version. I don't support past versions of BCL.

2. Make sure when you are doing a laser job that you do not use BCL to do anything else. BCL needs all of it's CPU and memory to focus on sending g-code to the controller board. So leave BCL alone and let it laser.

3. It does not sound like you have your laser focused at all. 2mm wood, even hard wood, should not take 50 passes! What wattage is your laser diode? Post a photo of your laser focus line please.

Hi !

I apologize for the late reply but I had problems with the Widows.
When I upgraded BCL 3.1f to Win 10, the program did not start.
Ok, I reinstalled to Win 7. The BCL installation ended with an error.
“Uninstal registry key not found.”
Finally, I installed Win 8.1.  Now that's okay.
Back to my problem.
Of course, "sleep" is off, cutting in two turns is a good idea.
In truth, this material is a Finnish 6-layer airplane quality plywood
I have an EleksMaker 3.5 W laser diode.

What is the problem?

BTW that second photo attachment you posted: your rounded rectangle test shape burn line looks very 'fat'. I would say you still do not have your laser beam focused correctly. If your problem is that you cannot cut this wood, that is the reason.

>I started cutting, estimated time 2 h 50 min

Started cutting what? Are you using a dxf file?

I'm really having a hard time understanding what problem you are trying to solve?

Please follow these steps and report back: http://benboxlaser.us/index.php/topic,1128.0.html

  Hi Ralph.
I'm sorry to bother you with my questions.
As I wrote at the beginning of the topic, I wanted to cut a 2 mm thick, hard Finnish airplane quality plywood.
I've attached the dxf file.

OK, maybe the focus is not good, where can I find an explanation for the setting?
Another problem is that version 3.1 f does not work. You can not control the laser head.
Can not move at all.
If I click on “Send to Laser” the program freezes. It can not be switched off.
I reinstalled 2.9a which is perfect.
Another last question.
In laser mode, the Gcode list never moves?
It would be good to keep track of where the program is going.

With friendly greetings from Imre Szecsi  ret. B 767 instr. cpt.

See attachment. Burn a line and focus your laser diode to get the thinnest burn line possible. Burn again and adjust until you get a thin burn line. Now you're in focus for that wood thickness. Refocus is needed when changing wood thicknesses.

Which g-code list? What tab?

We need to do a screen share so I can see what steps you are taking in your work flow.

I use www.join.me

Let me know when you are available to do a screen share session.

I'm closing this ticket. If I hear from you I will re-open it.

In VLM mode, the G-code list follows the process.
But in Laser mode, when I press the "Send To Laser" button, the G-line list moves to the end of the program and does not move.
So you can not track the running of the program. Is this normal?

That is correct. You cannot track the running program...for the following reasons:

1. It takes time for the CPU to update the g-code window and refresh that component. BCL focuses all of it's available CPU cycles to sending g-code and receiving messages back from the controller board.

2. The g-code window is a poor way to 'track' your laser job. You need to watch and monitor your laser machine as it does it's burning. That's how you should be tracking your job.

The g-code get's displayed in the window just to show you what has been generated, but not for the purpose of 'following' the job.
