engrave skateboard, both sides?
« on: February 27, 2018, 09:00:09 AM »
Hi,
As an owner of laser I get loads of can you requests... not that I mind.
I have been asked by the local youth if I can laser a skateboard deck. The back
should not be an issue if I sand the paint off as it is maple ply but I got thinking about cutting off
some of the grip part. I dont think it should be an issue but I think the sand (is it sand) used for grip might be difficult to cut through.
I have a 2.5 blue diode laser and a K40.
Anyone already tried cutting grip tape on maple ply?
=)
Laser: 2500mw A5 eleksmaker L5, K40 with Cohesion3D mini board, air assist, laser pointer etc..
OS: Windows 7, Debian, OpenSuse, Kali
Software: T2Laser, laserweb4, Repitier, Cura
Prusa i3 Clone GT2560
Anycubic Kossel Delta ramps

Normally, you'd laser cut through the reverse side of the grip tape before adhesion. Like:

BTW, lots of cool designs for inspiration if you do a google image search on "laser cut grip tape skateboard".

I would've thought the glassy sand surface of the top side would refract the laser beam too much to cut. (Not to mention the chaotic side reflections everywhere...) Haven't tried it yet though. Still waiting for my skateboarding friends to deliver their skateboards.
