Engraving Acrylic rolling pin
« on: March 06, 2018, 07:21:01 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried to engrave an acrylic rolling pin?  i know that we need to paint the acrylic black and we would need some type of rotary tool.  the rolling doesn't need to be clear.

never tried but if you used a not clear or not red one.  like black or green it should work just fine.

If you do try it you could always use a pretty cool design from some users here

Or

I hear the designers are pretty cool  ;)

Hi @nottingham82 - Why not red? I've engraved on translucent red with good success using my 2W TTL.

You can try
https://www.3dhubs.com/
to find someone local that can print for you...
This said, I recently bought a TronXY X1 for 120 euros +- so if you are going to be spending 80Cdn it might be worth saving for your own printer!

I have someone on 3dhubs. He's really great. 120 is like $192cdn.  I plan to get 3d printer just not now.  I just got the laser so I have to put it to work.

This hobby is addictive. Once you get the laser a 3D printer is guaranteed to be next. Then comes the CO2 laser cutter followed by a second/third diode laser for specialty etching projects. If you want to have a life outside laser etching, don't listen to Nottingham!!!! He is responsible for a basement full of etching projects. And then there is the competition to do something he hasn't already mastered.

I think the order goes something like this;
Laser diode
3d printer
CO2 laser
CNC mill
divorce....

I got around all of this by letting the S.O. buy all the shoes she wants and getting a 4th 3Dprinter as a Father / Daughter build project (the rainbow filament is on order!). I have been looking at 3040 cnc mills recently but cant justify one.... yet...!
Or... you could just hide all these machines and 'pretend' you only have one you keep 'upgrading' and 'adapting' (I got away with this for a bit!!).

Sorry, I forgot the CNC mill. Also printing/cutting/etching projects for grandchildren goes a long way.

I guess I can say that I am addicted and the way to avoid a divorce is to keep making things for my wife. How can she be mad when I give here things?

Oh and I have at least two of everything on the list and still have a wife.
Laser: was an A3 2.0w TTL L6 Z axis now 2'x3'
OpenBuilds ACRO 510 w/ 2.0W TTL laser Cohesion Mini Z axis Homing switches
K40 Cohesion Mini 60W LightObject LPS
          80W Red-Black 500x700

cool is simply a subjective state of mind
