had some random junk laying around, chucked it on my eleks frame... worked hillariously well and looks like a solid coathanger abortion lol

Wow, I wouldn't be using a CO2 laser on an open frame machine, even a reflection at that wavelength is a significant risk.

I think it's cool, but I agree with Zax, there's potential for some serious harm there!
Where's the light path?  I'm not familiar with how the CO2 laser systems work, I realize that instead of moving the laser itself, you're re-directing the beam and eventually focussing it on the workpiece.  How are you tracking the moving cutting head?

I agree too with MarcusJ and Zax.
But you will survive that.

CO2 laser systems working like the old CRT-Monitor with high voltage (15KV and much moore).
But you will survive that.

I also agree, it would be a shame to burn a hole in your carpet!!
I would have seconds to live if the S.O. saw me building a lazer in the living room!! just jealous!
nice setup though.  Ever thought of increasing the size of the frame?
