Hello Everyone
« on: April 18, 2018, 10:27:59 AM »
I pulled the trigger and bought a Eleksmaker A3 Pro from Gearbest. If was delivered yesterday and I assembled it last night.
Fired it up and worked right out of the box (well after assembly....)

It has the Mana SE board and a 3 wire Laser.

Just wanted to say hello as I am sure I will have lots of questions.

welcome SRathwell, give T2Laser a go, you will appreciate the 'upgrade'. Also take a look at the what can de engraved (or is it burned / cut??) post. Lets see how long it takkes you to get tot he 'Can I engrave on that' stage...

Zax, dont underestimate yourself, as far as I am concerned you have not given a wrong answer so far..

I downloaded the trial of T2 last night and started playing around with it. Very impressed, it is head and shoulders above the stock program. I will be buying it for sure.

I bought T2 last night. Quickly designed up a coaster in Gimp and gave it a whirl. Turned out not too bad for my first real project.

very nice an neat. Looks like you have your laser dialled in correctly.
Now expect to spend any remaining monay on slate, different woods and all sorts of other materials!
Lots of users here use inkscape to make vector designs.. Just saying as I find gimp a bit much. just my 2c!

I have a full woodshop at my house so I have lots different woods at my disposal.

I have an order already for some custom cloth hangers for a wedding. I ordered those off Amazon.

I have used Inkscape before but for right now everything I am doing is raster not vector. I am pretty proficient with GIMP and what I dont know I can find on Youtube.

Right now I am doing trials with Baltic Birch ply and dark stains.

I ordered some slate coaster. Time to give that a try.

The laser has paid for itself already in just mothers day cutting boards.

I am looking pretty seriously into a 40w C02 laser. I have seen with a board upgrade you can use T2 Laser, can anyone confirm how well that is working? Zax?

You are most likely talking about the Cohesion3D board, which appears to be a good solution. It's a simple drop in replacement and I have several customers using it with T2Laser.

I used an Eleks board and removed the connectors from the old board, but I wouldn't recommend that unless you have excellent soldering skills. It was cheaper ($20) but no where near as convenient.

I am one of those that has a K40/Cohesion3D board running smoothie, and T2 works fine. I have had great results with birch ply with both dithering and grayscale and does all the usual's like slate, glass, mirrors, tile.....
Laser: was an A3 2.0w TTL L6 Z axis now 2'x3'
OpenBuilds ACRO 510 w/ 2.0W TTL laser Cohesion Mini Z axis Homing switches
K40 Cohesion Mini 60W LightObject LPS
          80W Red-Black 500x700

cool is simply a subjective state of mind
