World Map
« on: September 06, 2018, 05:45:31 PM »
I was away from home for a few days and came dome with LSAS - Laser Separation Anxiety Syndrome. Attached is a PNG map of the world along with an etching on scrap wood. I apologize in advance if I incorrectly adjusted the outline of your corner of the world. I was trying to get lines 3 pixels wide with 3 pixel separation. Feel free to make corrections and post better results.

Just wondering, why would you raster something like that?

Vector is much faster and better quality. You can always put an outline and/or inline to make it thicker.

I absolutely agree a vector would be much faster to cut and easier to make uniform line widths. This image stared as a downloaded jpg that was then scaled to fit slate tiles. Plus I was sitting idle!!

Attached is an image where the lines are approximately one pixel wide. It etched quite nicely on furniture grade plywood at 254dpi, 1200 mm/min & full power with 2.5W laser. Might try again at 900 for a little darker burn. Tried an online raster to vector service to generate a svg file. Results were not worth etching. If anyone has a good raster to vector conversion utility I would like to see the results. The etching took about 25 minutes with the non-burn travel speed at 1200 mm/min. Attached is the source file.
