« on: September 11, 2018, 07:16:20 AM »
I am complete newby and have the 40X50CM 500MW DIY Laser Engraving Machine CNC Desktop Wood Logo Cutter Engraver ...

My question which i'm sure it's been tackled is ... Can i enlarge the burn size from 8.1 x 5.2 cm to more?

Thanks & bear with me please.

Do you mean to extend the machine?

Yes, you can use longer extrusions and belts to achieve a larger frame size. It should not be an issue.

The mechanics of the typical hobby grade laser engraver are incredibly simple. The components for rails, bearings, motors, etc. are readily available and quite inexpensive. Expansion or replacement of your equipment is really a matter of your expertise, expectations and budget. The current machine should provide you a platform to learn the tools and get a feeling for what your long term needs might be, My initial 5.5W laser sits idle because the 1.6W does such a better job on etching.

No no I do not intend to extend my current machine ... but the software displays only an 8.1 x 5.2cm window ... so I can't see or not sure it can engrave beyond this area ...
Cheers

T2Laser or BCL are your best options at the moment.
The new EleksCAM that is being built looks really good as well
I am a T2 guy myself

For completeness sake ... just in case someone is curious of how I resolved this problem ... The benbox software does allow bigger burn size ... you only need to zoom out with a proper mouse wheel and visually control your image to burn ...

Benbox may be capable but it will only work with their modified Grbl 0.8, so your machine performance is going to be slow. Grbl 1.1 has faster and smoother motion control, not to mention the real time overrides and other features like homing.
