Laser power 63 and below works, but 64 and above doesn't
« on: November 16, 2018, 02:08:13 PM »
Hi there - just wondering if anyone has encountered a similar issue. I'm using the "10mm Square" sample and it appears that if I set the laser power to 63 or a number less than that, the servo motors draw the little square properly. But if I try to use a higher power, it pulses the laser a couple of times and moves the gantry a couple millimeters, but that's it. I've got it flashed with the default 1.1e firmware.

Any ideas? This seems strange. Thank you!

Yes, either the power supply is failing or something is drawing too much current (overloading it).

Since the motors work without the laser or with it at low power it sounds like nottingham82 is correct and it's the power supply.

Or the current limit is at the minimum.

?

That doesn't make sense, if the motors work with the laser off then the current limits must be acceptable.

Not if it was very marginal. I agree the the most likely related to the power supply but the laser is only 500mw. Perhaps a test might be to disengage the drive mechanism.
