Sand Blasting Stencils
« on: December 08, 2019, 09:02:26 AM »
I have tried to cut stencils out with an xacto knife and fine that my hand is not too steady.
I tried 3d printing a stencil, but they have troubles contouring to a glass.

Anybody have an idea of something I can print or laser cut to use as a stencil for sand blasting?

The "professional" solution is to use a tangential knife plotter and cut rubber mask, that's great for sand blasting granite to make a headstone but for a hobby version how about cutting foamies or something similar with your laser and using that? It's available with an adhesive backing but that would make it one time use.

Timing is everything - I just finished cutting some stencils on 7 mil Mylar for airbrushing and they came out very clean using the CO2 laser. I have a vinyl cutter as well and what takes minutes on the vinyl cutter takes seconds with the laser and I am getting cleaner edges with the laser.
Laser: was an A3 2.0w TTL L6/GRBL Z axis now 2'x3'
OpenBuilds ACRO 510 w/ 2.0W TTL laser Cohesion Mini/Smoothie Z axis Homing switches
K40 Cohesion Mini 60W LightObject LPS
          80W CO2 Red-Black 500x700

cool is simply a subjective state of mind

I would love me a CO2 laser. That is on the list as well.
The wife wants me to start up a small side business with some offerings. We have a lot of niche and boutique stores near us that would probably buy some stuff. Just need to figure out what I can and cannot do year around
