Feed rate - units question.
« on: June 28, 2020, 01:32:03 AM »
Hello,
I have tried to find in what units is the feed rate, but wasn't very successful. Is it mm/min, or mm/meter? or in inches?

And what would be good max speed and max acceleration for a3 eleksmaker diode laser please?
Thank you in advance!

Feed rate is mm/min and acceleration is mm/sec^2.

If you use my Grbl 1.1e DEFAULT firmware the parameters are already optimized for this type of machine.

What you use for feedrate and power is dependent on your laser and material being burnt. Slate is quite different from paper and black paper is very different from white.

I have (i think it is 2.5mw) blue diode laser and wanna cut cardboard stencils. From my experience, best paper for cutting stencils with blue diode laser is a red paper. red as a color. it cuts very easily and no burn marks. when i played with the settings, for that specific laser i had to stay with 300 feed rate (which is quite slow) and 255 power. but it works. I just needed to know what units T2 uses.
Thank you!

The units are determined by your controller / firmware, T2Laser sends G-code which doesn't specify the units. Grbl uses the units I provided.

You can play with the GRL parameters and set your units to mm or inches. 300mm/min for single pass thick paper cutting sound reasonable. Try some simple test patterns for dimensional accuracy.
