Cutting paper with no burning
« on: January 19, 2017, 04:38:45 AM »
Hi everyone, i'm a newbie and i'm trying to make a birthday card but the endges of the cut are burned and When i touch it the card gets dirt with black fingerprints. How can i cut avoiding this? Low  intensity and multiple passages? I have a 2,5 w machine

That may be difficult, as if the paper is white/reflective you need to slightly burn it before the laser energy is absorbed.

You want the highest speed possible, and it may require a low power pass to darken it and then higher power to cut.

What do you mean with high and low power? High speed is 1000?

At a speed of 1000 with the 2.5W at 255 power it will probably not do much, but if it dulls the surface the next pass may cut. I would try the first pass at 800 and the next at 400, see what it does. Then adjust as needed.

You can also try multiple passes at the higher feed rates but I think it will burn too much, the same as using a slow feed rate and trying to cut in 1 pass.

The laser burns to cut. There will always be soot. "Cutting without burning" is an oxymoron with a laser.

I have found that generic white printer paper cuts quite nicely without much residual charring. I am not near laser machine but can post speed, power, etc in a couple of days if it would be useful.
